Christian Eckart

Christian Eckart (Canada, b. 1959). Christian Eckart's work has been the subject of more than 60 solo exhibitions—including numerous museum surveys—and has been included in over 150 group exhibitions. His work is held in many significant private and public permanent collections, including the Guggenheim Museum (New York), the Museum of Modern Art (New York), the Museum Moderner Kunst (Vienna), the Art Institute of Chicago, the Detroit Institute of Arts, the Broad Art Foundation, and the Art Gallery of Ontario, among many others throughout North America, Europe, and Asia. Eckart divided his time between New York and Berlin from 1996 to 1997, and between New York and Amsterdam from 1997 to 2000. He taught at the School of Visual Arts in New York from 1994 to 2002, and at the Glassell School of Art of the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston from 2003 to 2005. He also held visiting professorships at both the University of Houston and Rice University. In 2009, he received the distinguished honor of being inducted into the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts. He has lectured extensively throughout North America and Europe, completed numerous public and private commissions, organized group exhibitions, and published a range of essays and articles. Christian Eckart lives and works in Houston, Texas.
