Herald Nix (b.1951) brings a sincere and experimental exploration of beauty into his intimate landscapes, set in British Columbia. Returning to particular landforms over the course of his career, Nix interprets each subject through a rhythm of repeated motifs to reveal shifts in lighting, weather, season, and mood over time. Through this contemplative approach to landscape, Nix’s brush strokes, carvings, and textures create a space for the viewer to wander through the emotive process of discovery hidden within the familiar.
Herald Nix lives and works in Salmon Arm, British Columbia. He attended the Vancouver School of Art (now Emily Carr University of Art + Design) and has exhibited in Canada, the United States, and the UK in solo and group exhibitions at galleries that include Wil Aballe Art Projects, Vancouver, BC; Clint Roenisch Gallery, Toronto, ON; Kelowna Art Gallery, Kelowna, BC; TrepanierBaer Gallery, Calgary, AB; Steven S. Powers | Joshua Lowenfels Gallery, New York, NY; and Frieze No. 9 Cork Street, London, UK; as well as NADA New York, NY, and FELIX Art Fair, Los Angeles, CA, with Wilding Cran Gallery.
